Ready for School: Essential Skills

Strong movement and coordination

Children develop fundamental movement skills through outdoor play, music, and movement experiences. These activities build strength, balance, coordination, and physical confidence.

Respect for the learning environment

Children learn to care for their classroom through grace and courtesy experiences. They practise respecting shared spaces and confidently packing away materials after use.

Confidence to take on challenges

Children are encouraged to choose activities that stretch their abilities. This helps build resilience, self-belief, and a positive mindset towards learning.

Problem-solving and critical thinking

Organisation and work skills

Children learn how to plan, organise, and complete tasks through clear routines and demonstrations. These experiences build structure, responsibility, and independence.

Communication and collaboration

Group activities encourage children to ask questions, listen to others, and share ideas. This supports strong communication skills and teamwork.

Focus and concentration

Interest-led activities help children stay engaged for longer periods. Over time, this strengthens listening skills and concentration.

Emotional expression and self-awareness

A supportive environment encourages children to express thoughts and feelings openly. This helps build emotional confidence and self-awareness.

Independence and self-help skills

Daily routines support children in caring for themselves and their environment. These experiences build confidence, responsibility, and independence.
